WELCOME TO RIVER FRIENDS MEETING!

Established by a crew of high school students, college freshmen and other young people, River Friends is a unique kind of Quaker meeting.Rooted in the Wilburite tradition of Quakerism, River Friends is a community of spiritual seekers. We are profoundly moved by the vitality of Early Quaker spirituality!Young people were the motor which powered the incredible faith of the primitive Quakers, and we bear witness to that truth now.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

As members of the Wilburite (Primitive) Quaker tradition, we are wholly centered on the Inward Christ. We believe Christ has come to teach His people, Himself. Our focus is plain and unabashedly on the Gospel.God is mystery and His ways cannot be broken down into neat theological boxes. In our waiting worship, we ready ourselves for the presence of Christ, in Spirit and in Truth.
When we wait on God, we mind the Light, which reproves us, nurtures us and perfects us.
We believe that there is a Spirit which has had many names, a Spirit which delights to do no evil, but indeed to Love. We are waiting on Love.

OUR WORSHIP

In both the Old and New Testaments, God calls on us to worship Him in stillness and clarity. (Psalm 46:10) In our worship, we wait to hear the 'still, small' voice of God, which requires silence. We worship on the very first First Day (Sunday) each month, in Gordon Park. Our services include the reading of a query and then a portion of silence. During the silence, if a Friend feels the Holy Spirit moving them, they minister to the congregation.

BELOVED COMMUNITY

Our community is not theologically static. People come here from all spiritual walks of life, from any perspective, however unified by a common devotion to Jesus. Whether it be in the wonder of his Godship or indeed his life and teachings, we know our brain based notions of Jesus are not as important as our likeness to him.River Friends is a Meeting for everyone, of every faith (or lacktherof), to come and adore the Spirit of Truth. When we are gathered, we enter into communion, with God and with eachother.
